The Greater Sydney Water Strategy, developed in partnership between the NSW Government and Sydney Water, sets a long-term 20- to 40-year direction for managing water supply, wastewater, stormwater and recycled water services across the Sydney, Illawarra and Blue Mountains regions. The strategy emphasises resilience, diversification of water sources, efficiency and community engagement.

The 3 year implementation plan for the Greater Sydney Water Strategy expired as of 30 June 2025 and development of a revised implementation plan is now underway, to be published in 2026. Monitoring, evaluation and reporting reviews are conducted on the strategies annually with revised information on progress against key actions to be published in early 2026.
