Groundwater guidelines for  state significant projects

Groundwater resources must be protected and remain a secure and sustainable water source for communities.  For this reason, state significant developments and state significant infrastructure (SSD and SSI) projects related to groundwater must meet specific requirements and provide evidence that the proposed activity follows the Water Management Act 2000 and other NSW groundwater policies.

Groundwater toolkit

The Groundwater Toolkit includes guidelines and documents to guide the preparation of  applications.

The overarching guideline and three technical documents address:

  • groundwater impacts and risks
  • water licensing requirements
  • how to provide relevant data to demonstrate the proposed activity is compliant.

The toolkit was created in consultation with industry experts to complement existing industry requirements and to ensure it addresses all the requirements for a mining, quarrying, dredging or infrastructure project  application.
